Join us at Madagascar Basecamp for some fun-filled activities and get ready to let your imagination run wild! We’ve partnered up with our friends Craghoppers, adventure travel clothing specialists, to make the weekend even more adventurous and exciting!
If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to be an intrepid explorer or a Chester Zoo conservationist on an expedition to the forests of Madagascar to protect wildlife from extinction – then we’ve got the perfect opportunity for you to ask your questions to those in the know.
11am – Little Explorer story time
Travel through the Madagascan forest and explore mysterious creatures along the way at our special story time. (A story narrated by our Zoo Rangers who take us on aforest adventure, meeting Madagascan animals along the way. Includes sounds, dress up and actions. Suitable for families with children under five years old.

12pm – Mini Expedition
Are you ready for a mini adventure? Learn the important skills you need to be a wild explorer! (Exploration and wildlife spotting activities around Madagascar Basecamp using binoculars and maps. Suitable for families with 5 – 8 year olds. Approx. 30 mins)
2pm – Create your own adventure story
Come on an amazing adventure story with us. Help us to decide where we’ll go and what we’ll find along the way! (An interactive story presented by our Zoo Rangers and the storyline is decided by you, our visitors, by voting and rolling the dice. Suitable for a family audience. Approx. 30 mins)
2-5pm – Discover…golden mantellas in the Tropical Realm
Find out how we Act For Wildlife and protect these tiny orange frogs! (There will be a ‘touch table’ telling the story about our conservation science work with golden mantella frogs in the field, labs and right here at the zoo. Suitable for family audiences. 1 hour)
